LUCKY PETERSON @ Cardiff

Blues concert "Tribute to Jimmy Smith".

Following his amazing sell out concert in August 2017, we are delighted to announce that Lucky is to return to Acapela with a brand new show. Lucky Peterson concentrates for this concert on the Hammond B-3 organ, his favorite instrument whose warm tone refers to the songs of gospel and the hymns of soul music. To pay tribute to his mentor Jimmy Smith, he surrounded himself with virtuoso partners among whom stands the prodigy guitarist Kelyn Crapp. Throughout his new album, Lucky Peterson is the repository of a long musical history rooted in the blues but very open; we find the pulsation of jazz, the groove of rhythm'n'blues and the energy of rock'n'roll. After the remarkable "The Son of a Bluesman" and "Live in Marciac", the new album of the American bluesman Lucky Peterson at Jazz Village is already an important and indispensable disc in his lush discography. The reason for this is twofold. First of all, Lucky Peterson plays exclusively with the Hammond B-3 organ and favors instrumental pieces, and then proposes a particularly compact instrumentation (a trio organ-guitar-drums, sometimes with the addition of a trumpet or a saxophone) through a repertoire clearly oriented towards jazz, in tribute to the great organist Jimmy Smith.

Lucky Peterson: Hammond organ, vocals
Kelyn Crapp: guitar
Nicolas Folmer: trumpet
Ahmad Compaoré: drums

LUCKY PETERSON @ Edinburgh

Blues concert "Tribute to Jimmy Smith.

Organ virtuoso Lucky Peterson comes to Edinburgh Blues Club for the first time to perform a stunning tribute to the great American jazz musician Jimmy Smith. For this show, Peterson concentrates on the Hammond B-3 organ, his favourite instrument whose warm tone references to the songs of gospel and the hymns of soul music. When recording the quite brilliant "Tribute to Jimmy Smith" album, Peterson surrounded himself with virtuoso partners among whom stands the prodigy guitarist Kelyn Crapp. Throughout the album, Peterson is the repository of a long musical history rooted in the blues but very open; we find the pulsation of jazz, the groove of rhythm & blues and the energy of rock & roll. This is music that grooves, and could be called "jazz'n'blues", harking right back to the old days of the Blue Note. From 1956 to 1963, Jimmy Smith was also one of the locomotives of this label, knowing how to deploy with force and elegance. Here, Lucky Peterson channels the soulful jazz elegance of Smith, with his own unique interpretations of the great man's work. LUCKY PETERSON @ Shipley

Blues concert "Tribute to Jimmy Smith.

Lucky Peterson is the most dangerous triple threat working in the blues. He has gained a reputation as one of the most preeminent performers of the modern era. A searing lead guitarist, fantastic organist, and first-rate vocalist, Lucky's many talents are truly mind-boggling. Peterson is prime-rich in roots but performs in the present, and that's just what one would expect from an artist with Peterson's resumé. His career began when he was just a child. Growing up in Buffalo, Peterson was exposed to music his whole life; his father owned The Governor's Inn, one of the area's most renowned blues clubs. Willie Dixon produced Peterson's first record when he was but five years old, the R&B hit "1-2-3-4". This resulted in television appearances for the blues prodigy on such shows as The Tonight Show, The Ed Sullivan Show, and What's My Line. As a teenager, he attended Buffalo Academy of Performing Arts before paying dues in the bands of Etta James and Otis Rush. One of the most versatile players working in the blues, Peterson has since performed with a long list of greats, including B.B. King and Albert Collins. Released in October 2017, his latest album is a tribute to the music of the late great Hammond organ legend Jimmy Smith.
